Why Utah?

Vantage Point by Aspiro: Wilderness Adventure Therapy in One of America’s Most Beautiful Settings The Vantage Point by Aspiro base of operations is located in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. The state of Utah, and particularly Salt Lake City, has cutting edge medical services in every area. We can swiftly arrange to have your child evaluated by physicians, psychiatrists, neurologists, or any other medical specialist he or she may require while in our care. We have been very successful in meeting specialized medical or assessment needs. We have also been able to integrate these off-site evaluations into the daily wilderness adventure therapy program goals and in specific recommendations for future assistance. Utah also leads the wilderness therapy industry in setting regulatory standards. Utah was the first state to develop more rigorous accreditation best practices, and as a result, has a relatively long history of ensuring safe, effective, and consistent therapeutic practices. We could not pick a better location to care for and treat our students. High Uintashigh-uintas Starting at an elevation of 6000 ft, the Uinta mountain range is home to majestic wildlife and pine forests. The terrain offers camping, hiking, and snowshoeing, and promotes teamwork and problem-solving in addition to orienteering and navigational skills. Many of the skills our students learn, and the solutions they arrive at, are carried with them far beyond this mountain range, into life outside of our program. Wasatch Frontwasatch-front Home to dramatic peaks and canyons, the Wasatch front offers rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, and skiing at the beautiful Sundance resort. The spectacular scenery serves to dwarf any man-made problems. Focus in this location is on risk-management and technical skill, and reevaluating and modifying unhealthy behaviors. Great Basingreat-basin Here rolling desert hills give way to the Great Salt Lake. The most conducive to introspection of all of our locations, students hike, mountain bike, and backpack through the stark beauty of the desert. The lack of distractions here leads to confrontation of issues and examination of one’s own inner purpose without the distractions of our busy lives. The Colorado Plateaucolorado-plateau Wending through Utah’s famous national parks, Arches and Canyonlands, students are surrounded by beautiful red rock and elaborate organic structures. These treks also venture into Escalante and Ouray Canyons. Here students experience first hand how their day to day decisions can affect the future. Activities include canyoneering, hiking, and backpacking. Mojave Desertmojave-desert Our Mojave Desert excursions are based out of St. George, and focus on rock climbing. There is a great deal of terrain for novice rock climbers, and the beautiful landscape of desert plants and volcanic rock provide an inspiring backdrop. Utah’s diverse topography offers wilderness adventure therapy activities throughout the seasons. Our students see some of the most beautiful wilderness areas that Utah has to offer. Wilderness adventure therapy activities vary depending on the time of year and other factors, but include:
  • skiing
  • top-rope rock climbing
  • mountain-biking
  • primitive living skills
Each activity helps students achieve a higher level of self-efficacy, and helps them learn practical life lessons. Our goal is to give them tools for success in their life beyond Vantage Point by Aspiro.
